Linocut Print of a Mountain Range
Stable DiffusionLinocut Print of a Mountain Range is an SDXL 1.0 prompt for a two-tone relief print at 2:3, sized for both framed wall art and apparel. Uneven ink coverage and a visible plate edge are what make it read as hand-pulled rather than as a vector silhouette.

Prompt
A hand-pulled linocut print of a layered mountain range, three ridgelines reduced to flat black shapes with visible carved white gouge marks describing snow and scree, a low sun as a clean circle sitting behind the middle ridge, coarse pine silhouettes along the foreground ridge, printed in single-colour black ink on warm cream cotton paper, slightly uneven ink coverage with a visible plate edge and a faint ink halo, high contrast, no gradients, no halftone, no text
Negative prompt
blurry, low quality, gradients, smooth shading, photorealistic, digital vector, clean flat silhouette, halftone dots, colour, text, watermark, drop shadow

How to use this prompt
Relief printing is subtractive, and that constraint has to be stated or SDXL ignores it. Every light area must be a carved white cut inside a black field — "visible carved white gouge marks" — never grey shading, which a single-colour lino block physically cannot produce. That is why "no gradients" appears in both the prompt and the negative. The other half of the illusion is imperfection: "uneven ink coverage" and "a visible plate edge" are the two phrases that separate a hand-pulled print from a crisp SVG. Drop them and the result looks like clip art, which is exactly what print buyers scroll past.
Variations to try
- Add a second ink layer: burnt orange sky printed slightly off register behind the black ridges
- Switch the subject to a coastal scene — headland, lighthouse and wave crests in the same style
