25+ Cyberpunk AI Prompts: Neon Cities & Rain (2026)
26 tested cyberpunk AI prompts for Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Flux and DALL·E — neon streets, rain portraits, mech pilots and noodle bars, plus the two-color palette formula that keeps your renders from collapsing into rainbow soup.
Cyberpunk is the most forgiving genre in AI image generation. Its visual grammar — neon signage, rain, hard two-color contrast — is so strong that even a rough prompt comes back looking intentional; the models have seen millions of neon streets, so you’re steering downhill.
Cyberpunk runs 15 prompts deep in our tested library across all four models — and like 72% of our Midjourney entries overall, its Midjourney prompts lean on --no chains to keep neon scenes clean (full corpus data).
That abundance is also the trap. Ask lazily and you get rainbow soup: every neon color at once, an empty street with no story, reflections painted onto dry pavement — interchangeable with the thousands generated every day.
The 26 prompts below are not. Eleven come from our cyberpunk style hub — tested on the model they’re written for, with settings and variations on every card. The other fifteen are new, filling scenes the library doesn’t cover yet, ready to paste as-is.
The cyberpunk formula (read this before prompting)
Four decisions separate a striking cyberpunk render from soup, and they apply to every prompt below.
Wet surfaces first. Neon in dry air is just a colored lamp. Rain-slicked asphalt, fogged glass, a canal, an umbrella’s skin — wet surfaces make every light land twice, and that doubling is the look. No water in your scene? Add steam.
Name exactly two colors. “Colorful neon lights” invites the model to sample the whole spectrum. “Teal and magenta” or “crimson and cyan” gives it a palette to grade the whole frame against — the difference between art-directed and generated.
Add a human-scale anchor. Empty spectacle is forgettable. A noodle stall, a stray cat, a lone figure under an umbrella — one small warm thing gives the megacity scale and the viewer somewhere to stand.
Set the optimism dial. Cyberpunk isn’t only dystopia. Decide whether your scene is surveillance-cold or rooftop-garden hopeful before you write, because the choice picks your light source: cold scenes are lit by advertising, hopeful ones by dawn or a cooking fire.
Streets & cities
The load-bearing scenes of the genre — canyons of signage, wet pavement, layered depth.
1. Neon Cyberpunk City Street — Midjourney v7, --ar 16:9 --stylize 250
The definitive establishing shot, and the entry we point every beginner at first.
Why it works: the named teal-and-magenta palette plus “rain-slicked” do most of the mood work; if Midjourney drifts from your street layout, drop --stylize toward 100.
2. Rainy Cyberpunk Anime Street — Midjourney v7 (Niji 6), --ar 9:16 --stylize 250
The same street, redrawn as a melancholy anime film still at phone-wallpaper ratio.
Why it works: “seen from behind” sells the lonely mood and skips the anime-face lottery, and the wet-street glow comes specifically from “neon signs reflecting in puddles” — without it Niji lights the scene from the sky.
3. Cyberpunk Night Market — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
The crowded, steamy counterpoint to the empty street above.
Why it works: “steam rising from food stalls” gives the volumetric lighting something physical to do, and keeping “daytime” in the negative prompt stops SDXL from quietly abandoning the night setting when the scene gets busy.
4. Neon pawn shop — Midjourney v7, --ar 3:2 --stylize 200
neon pawn shop storefront wedged between shuttered market stalls, hand-painted
sign buzzing amber and cyan, barred windows crammed with secondhand cybernetic
parts and old guitars, rain dripping off a torn awning, wet pavement doubling
every light, quiet side-street mood --no people, text --ar 3:2 --stylize 200
The window clutter is the point — the mismatched secondhand goods keep the shop from reading as another neon bar.
5. Elevated train at night — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
elevated train crossing a rusted viaduct above a neon street canyon at night,
lit windows streaking warm amber against cool cyan city haze, rain sheeting off
the tracks, dense layered signage below, cinematic low angle from street level,
volumetric fog, highly detailed
Negative: daytime, blurry, deformed, text, watermark, oversaturated, low quality
Settings: SDXL 1.0 · 30 steps · CFG 7 · DPM++ 2M Karras · 16:9
Keep the camera at street level — the low angle turns the passing train into an event instead of a transit map.
6. Canal city neon reflections (Flux)
Photorealistic cyberpunk canal district at night, narrow waterway running
between stacked apartment blocks, every neon sign doubled in the dark water,
a single delivery skiff cutting a ripple line through the reflections, laundry
lines and glowing cables strung between balconies, light rain dimpling the
surface, cinematic 35mm look.
The skiff’s ripple line is load-bearing — perfectly still water reads like a mirroring glitch.
7. Holographic koi over the street (DALL·E) — DALL·E 3
A quiet cyberpunk shopping street at night where a school of glowing holographic
koi swims through the air above the empty pavement, their light casting orange
and cyan ripples across the wet ground, shop shutters closed, one child's
bicycle leaning against a lamppost, dreamy cinematic digital illustration,
no readable text.
The bicycle is your human anchor — delete it and DALL·E gives you a pretty but weightless screensaver.
8. The last phone booth — Midjourney v7, --ar 2:3 --stylize 250
the last public phone booth on a neon backstreet, glass fogged and glowing warm
from inside, a single handset dangling off the hook, towering cold blue
advertising boards looming behind, rain needling through their light, wet
asphalt reflections, cinematic loneliness --no people, text --ar 2:3 --stylize 250
The dangling handset implies someone just left, which does more storytelling than any figure you could add.
People & portraits
Faces are where AI models fail loudest, so every prompt here has a built-in defense.
9. Cyberpunk Neon Rain Portrait — Flux.1 dev, 28 steps, guidance 3.5
Our most-copied portrait prompt, built around one transparent object.
Why it works: the clear umbrella is the whole idea — its skin becomes a curved canvas for the magenta and cyan reflections — and guidance stays at 3.5 because Flux skin turns waxy the moment you push it toward 5.
10. Cyberpunk Mech Pilot Portrait — SDXL 1.0, 32 steps, CFG 7
Painterly character concept art with the scale problem already solved.
Why it works: the “massive mech leg looming out of focus behind” establishes scale without asking SDXL to render a whole mech, and “helmet under one arm” keeps the hands busy and countable.
11. Cyberpunk Samurai Rooftop Duel — Midjourney v7, --ar 21:9 --stylize 300
Two figures, ultra-wide, and a fight scene that never descends into tangled limbs.
Why it works: asking for “a breath before the clash” instead of the fight itself gets clean, readable poses, and the crimson/teal katana split color-codes the duelists so the 21:9 frame stays legible at wallpaper size.
12. Monk with cyber prayer beads (Flux)
Photorealistic portrait of an elderly monk in saffron robes standing in a neon
alley at night, a string of prayer beads wrapped around his weathered hands
with a single bead glowing cyan, magenta signage melting into bokeh behind him,
fine rain misting his shaved head, calm expression, shallow depth of field,
cinematic night photography, no text or lettering.
Keep the tech to that single glowing bead — one quiet augmentation reads as devotional, a wrist full of them reads as costume.
Vehicles & action
Motion is the hardest thing to prompt, because blur wants to spread onto your subject.
13. Cyberpunk Hover Bike Racer — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
The reference prompt for background-only motion blur.
Why it works: “lights smearing into long horizontal streaks” keeps the motion blur in the background — ask for “motion blur” outright and SDXL blurs the rider too — while “wheels, motorcycle” in the negatives is what actually keeps the bike hovering.
14. Drone swarm over the plaza — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
massive coordinated drone swarm forming a glowing crimson lantern shape above a
rain-soaked public plaza at night, crowd of umbrellas looking up from below,
cyan city light on wet flagstones, long-exposure light trails from the lowest
drones, cinematic wide shot, volumetric haze
Negative: daytime, blurry, deformed faces, extra limbs, text, watermark, low quality
Settings: SDXL 1.0 · 30 steps · CFG 7 · DPM++ 2M Karras · 16:9
Give the swarm a named shape to form — unshaped swarms render as random noise in the sky.
15. Taxi interior at night, POV (Flux)
First-person view from the back seat of a cyberpunk taxi at night, rain-streaked
window smearing magenta and teal signs into long wet ribbons of light, driver
silhouetted against the glowing dashboard, a paper talisman swinging from the
mirror, reflections crawling across the seat vinyl, cinematic 35mm look,
shallow depth of field.
The swinging talisman gives Flux a crisp foreground object to focus on, so the window smear stays intentionally soft.
16. Night desert outpost — Midjourney v7, --ar 21:9 --stylize 250
lonely cyberpunk outpost in a night desert, a single fuel station and noodle
stand glowing teal and orange against total darkness, dunes catching the spill
light, satellite dishes on the roof, one parked hover truck, star field above
the light dome, cinematic wide shot --no text, people --ar 21:9 --stylize 250
The image is really about the darkness — keep the outpost the frame’s only light source.
17. Underground fight-club entrance — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
unmarked steel door at the end of a neon-lit service alley, crimson rope light
framing the doorway, a queue of figures in rain gear waiting under one
flickering sign, haze leaking through the door gap, wet concrete reflections,
tense cinematic night shot
Negative: gore, blood, violence, weapons, daytime, text, watermark, deformed faces, low quality
Settings: SDXL 1.0 · 30 steps · CFG 7 · DPM++ 2M Karras · 3:2
Shooting the door instead of anything behind it keeps the image evocative, publishable and safely SFW — the queue does the implying.
Interiors & small scenes
The genre’s best images are often its smallest — one room, one machine, one bowl.
18. Cluttered Cyberpunk Hacker Den — Midjourney v7, --ar 16:9 --stylize 250
An interior lit entirely by its own screens.
Why it works: “mismatched monitors” is the clutter engine — a plain monitor wall comes back as a tidy corporate command center — and “thin haze catching the screen light” makes the screens the room’s only light source, selling the shut-in atmosphere.
19. Cyberpunk Alley Noodle Bar — Flux.1 dev, 30 steps, guidance 3.5
The genre’s warmest cliché, earned through documentary detail.
Why it works: it spends its words on documentary specifics — “handwritten menu cards”, “mismatched stools” — that make the stall a real place, and the billowing broth steam gives the neon something physical to light; without it the scene flattens into a poster.
20. Cyberpunk Alley Vending Machines — DALL·E 3, 2:3
Proof that a scene needs exactly one living thing.
Why it works: the stray cat is the composition — “looking up at it” aims the whole scene at the machines — and “each machine humming in a different color” stops the row from collapsing into one uniform cyan glow.
21. Cyberpunk Rooftop Garden Sanctuary — Midjourney v7, --ar 16:9 --stylize 250
The optimism dial turned all the way up.
Why it works: the planter boxes of salvaged crates against the slick megacity make the garden feel illegal and precious, and “first light of dawn breaking through the smog” carries the hope — night versions come back ominous instead.
22. Cyber-clinic storefront (DALL·E) — DALL·E 3
A narrow 24-hour cyber-clinic storefront at night, a mint-green glowing cross
above the door, window display of prosthetic hands arranged like a jewelry
case, a small vending machine of bandages beside the entrance, warm light
spilling onto wet pavement in a cold blue street, no people, quiet cinematic
digital illustration, no readable lettering.
“Arranged like a jewelry case” is the phrase to keep — it tells DALL·E the prosthetics are precious merchandise, not medical horror.
23. Data-center cathedral — Midjourney v7, --ar 2:3 --stylize 300
vast data center built inside a gothic cathedral nave, server racks rising
between stone columns like organ pipes, cooling mist rolling across the marble
floor, stained glass recolored by blinking status lights in crimson and cyan,
a single abandoned technician's cart in the aisle, cinematic symmetry
--no people, text --ar 2:3 --stylize 300
Frame it dead-center symmetrical — the prompt’s whole argument is that the servers have replaced the altar.
24. Ramen bowl macro with neon rim light (Flux)
Macro food photography of a steaming ramen bowl on a rain-splashed counter at
night, neon rim light tracing magenta along the bowl's edge and cyan through
the rising steam, chopsticks resting across the rim, droplets beading on the
dark lacquer, city lights melted into bokeh behind, shallow depth of field,
photorealistic.
Assign each color a job — magenta on the rim, cyan in the steam — and Flux will grade the shot like a food stylist.
25. Arcology cross-section — Midjourney v7, --ar 9:16 --stylize 200
cutaway cross-section of a towering cyberpunk arcology at night, dozens of
stacked micro-apartments each lit a different warm or neon hue, a rooftop farm
level glowing green near the summit, monorail piercing the mid-section, rain
streaking the outer glass, intricate detailed illustration --no text,
watermark --ar 9:16 --stylize 200
Keep --stylize modest here; push it higher and Midjourney trades the cutaway’s dollhouse logic for pretty abstraction.
26. Neon greenhouse — SDXL 1.0, 30 steps, CFG 7
abandoned rooftop greenhouse retrofitted with hanging magenta and cyan grow
lights, condensation running down the glass panes, dense tomato vines and
hydroponic racks, city neon blurred beyond the fogged glass, one stool and a
thermos left mid-shift, moody cinematic interior, volumetric light
Negative: daytime, people, blurry, text, watermark, oversaturated, low quality
Settings: SDXL 1.0 · 30 steps · CFG 7 · DPM++ 2M Karras · 3:2
Condensation is your wet surface indoors — it gives the grow lights something to catch, the job rain does outside.
How to adapt any of these
Swap the palette, change the subgenre. The two named colors are a genre dial: teal/magenta is the classic look, amber/cyan pushes toward smoky noir, pink/purple drifts vaporwave-adjacent. Same scene, three different posters — change nothing else and compare.
Flip day for night. Every prompt here hides a dawn version: replace the night lighting with “pale overcast dawn, neon signs still glowing but losing to the daylight” and the mood shifts from mystery to melancholy. The wet surfaces still work — they catch grey sky instead.
Crop for the destination. Phone wallpapers want 9:16 with the anchor in the lower third where widgets won’t cover it; desktop suits 21:9 scenes like the samurai duel and desert outpost; poster crops want 2:3 with headroom above the subject for type. Our AI wallpaper prompts guide covers the resolution details.
What makes a good cyberpunk prompt?
A good cyberpunk prompt combines one wet surface (rain-slicked asphalt, fogged glass, a canal), exactly two named neon colors (teal and magenta, crimson and cyan), one human-scale anchor (a noodle stall, a stray cat, a lone figure), one atmosphere word (haze, steam, volumetric fog), and an explicit aspect ratio. Wet surfaces double every light, the two-color limit prevents rainbow soup, and the anchor gives the megacity scale and story.
Start with any prompt above and change one variable at a time — you’ll internalize the formula within a session. For more, the cyberpunk style hub has every entry with settings and variations, and the Midjourney prompt library covers what the genre’s favorite model can do beyond neon.
